YEAR 2 in summary

I must admit this has been a pretty huge roller-coaster of a year.  It started wth the awful news that the city was in a financial meltdown and the libraries was on the chopping block to be relinquished to the County library system.  We went into survivor mode, as all the principal librarians begin doing massive amount of research, and work to create a priority list of programs and activities that we would want the County to continue to provide the residents of Santa Ana. This was done so that…See More

What's the thing you crave and how can it be made healthier

We all have cravings, for either salty, sweets or crunchy things that may not necessarily be the best for us...I crave Fried Chicken and anything else within the deep fried category.  Completely bad for me, because of the fats used in making the perfect fried chicken. I especially crave fried chicken skins.  Sometimes I wished that I only could eat the skins.  Very very bad, I know.  So maybe the healthy alternative for me is to have crispy baked skinless chicken tenders..which still has the…See More

This weel will be another week when I will be all over the place.  The new library management interns will begin their Year 2 as Laura Bush Grant participants.  I will be also starting the process of recruiting the new LB pages for Year 2.  We have to start building a Float for the Fiestas Patrias parade ( I have never built a float before).  Hopefully everything will get done.  On top of this, we are finishing our "Small Steps Towards Healthy Living Grant project".  The funny thing is most of…See More

Year 1 of " Seeds to Trees" - So far..so good

As I sit, working on completing the interim report for Year 1 of this great adventure called the " seeds to Trees" project, it is time for me to really look at how things are going... Thus far, I think things are moving as best as they could be given the delays we have had in the hiring process. It's a tough year for libraries every where, but I feel that we still continue to plug along, and this Seeds to Trees project has been a great motivator for us. It is really encouraging to see that…

"Its A Whole System of Goodness" at the Webwise conference in Baltimore, Maryland!

Today was day two at the Webwise conference in Baltimore,  and thus far it has been very informatve and has given me many great ideas to percolate away in my brain.  The theme of the conference is on STEM education, which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.  This is a mandate from President Obama, in response to our nation lagging behind in developing these disciplines in our youth.  There were academicians, artists, scientists, librarians, teachers and administrators all…
